We really appreciate your support for Emmaus Clinic. As you may be aware, the government in Haiti has become completely nonfunctional, and gangs have filled the power void. Two weeks ago, Pastor Guito was kidnapped, and released after three days. He was forewarned that it was going to happen, but he did not want to leave his home, because if the kidnappers came for him and he was not there, it would have placed everyone else at risk. Wednesday late afternoon about 20 armed men came to his house. He was blindfolded and driven to a place where he was kept with several other kidnapped people. He said it was very dirty, and he could not eat the food, but they did give him clean water to drink. After a ransom was paid, the head of the gang told him, "Pastor, you are doing good things for the community. We are not going to hurt you, and if anyone else tries to do anything to you, let us know and we will defend you.” Gangster style “protection”.
Emmaus Clinic continues to be the only source of health care for this area. Doctor Jean Louis plans to continue to work for us, despite the danger. The nurses have already reopened the clinic. So we are blessed with a wonderful and self-sacrificing team, whose love and commitment are an inspiration.
Thank you again for your support,
